I’m Back…

So, I never really left… I just didn’t focus on my blog this summer.  I spent any free time with my boys, fixing up the house, doing things outside.  I still shot a bunch of cool assignments.  I just didn’t bother posting about them, because I had enough free time every week to go enjoy the summer weather.
It’s funny, because it’s getting super-busy as fall approaches, but that’s the easiest time to post an update on my blog!  During the summer, I’d have a few shoots per week, and several hours each day to play around.  With fall here, I’m shooting pretty much every day non-stop, multiple clients per day, and any extra time not shooting is spent in front of a computer doing post-processing, invoicing, etc.  It’s easier to hop on the blog and put something up, since I’m stuck on the computer all day, I guess.
Anyway, I thought I’d post these concert pics before I head out for a shoot at the museum.  Later this evening, I’ll be shooting some fancy event for FD Luxe…

Recent Work…

I know I’ve been neglecting my blog. Going a few weeks without a post just isn’t right, and I am sorry. I’ve been pretty busy, having shot several concerts, a music video, some band promos, some corporate events and images for company brochures, some cool nightlife images, and the normal VIP event type stuff… lots of photos are being taken!
I’ll try to get a copy of the new D Magazine that’s out, so I can share the couple pages I’ve got, and I’ll also try to scan some catalog and brochure work I’ve recently done. In the meantime, I’ll put up some recently published images from the DMN and FD Luxe. Enjoy…

Howard Jones…

Wow, I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I posted something! I’ve been a little busy, and I guess it just got away from me. I’ll try to dig up some interesting pics and stories to share from recent shoots. In the meantime, I’ll put up this photo of 80’s pop music icon Howard Jones that I shot for the news. The review was superbly written, so I suggest you hop online and check that out, too! Of course, you probably already saw it, because you subscribe to the paper, right? I do!

Lomography Contest…

I used to shoot a ton with my Holga camera and other “toy” cameras. But, I haven’t really messed with them much in the last five or ten years. Maybe it’s time to dust them off and bring them on a photo expedition…

urbanoutfitters.lomography.com

Urban Outfitters is offering you a trip to New York City. Well, they are offering it to the best Lomographer out there, and that’s you… right?!? If you think so, go the the link above and submit your best analog photos now!

Eye Of The Tiger!!!

I could almost hear that iconic guitar intro when I was shooting Grammy Award-winning rock band Survivor to do their most current band photos! It was really exciting to have worked with such an amazing band as the one and only Survivor! I bought the “Eye of the Tiger” single on 45rpm vinyl when I was a kid, and this was a great chance to work with one of my childhood rock heroes!
You can see my work on the band’s website at www.survivormusic.com, or they’ll also be using my images in press kits, social media outlets and possibly on some merch and/or a future album. If you’re a tiger, you should keep an “eye” out for my photos! Oh, was that joke way too cheesy?!? Yeah. Yeah, it was. Visit my website at www.janikphoto.com for more great photos.

I Like Ross…

OK, so the title of this blog isn’t quite as catchy as “I Like Ike“, but it seemed fitting for Mr. Perot. I’ve had the chance to photograph him several times, and he has always been very nice. I’d have to say that Ross Perot appears to be a very genuine and sincere guy… no wonder I voted for him back in the 1992 election!

ASMP Dallas Student Gallery Show

The juried photo show at Kettle Art Gallery turned out pretty well, I think. It’s tough being President of the North Texas chapter, trying to wrangle all the people and juggle all the details to make stuff like this happen, but it’s also very rewarding when it all comes together!
Of course, it’s not just me. So many other people gave their blood, sweat and tears to get us here. Our entire chapter board did so much work organizing and executing, the five guest judges worked hard to pick the final images for display, Frank at Kettle broke his back to get the show hung… and, of course, the student members all printed and delivered their images without issue.

Chefwear Catalog Photographer!!!

The new Chefwear catalog is out, and it features Dallas/Fort Worth area restaurants! It was great working with the people at Chefwear to showcase DFW’s best and boldest for their professional clothing catalog. Here are some sample pages from the 56 page catalog. I hope you enjoy my photos, as much as I enjoyed the photo shoots!

Abstract Concert Photos…

Every once in a while, I will play around at a concert and try to take some abstract images. They show off the movement, colors and energy of a show. It can definitely be something different and fun!
