Rock and Roll Royalty…

Located in North Texas, Denton is home to several accomplished musicians.  Some, like Brent Best, have toured across several continents, recorded stacks of albums, and even been written into a Stephen King novel – yup!  Google the band Slobberbone, and you’ll see the world famous novelist included them in Black House!
Luckily, I got the chance to photograph a few of these musical geniuses for the current cover story in the Dallas Observer.  It was a blast getting to hang out in Denton for the day, and I think the photos represent what the artists and town are all about.

More Perot Museum…

I know that I just had a post about the current Perot Museum of Nature and Science advertisements, but they were just so much fun to shoot!  I get excited every time I see a new one in a magazine or on a billboard.  Over two or three days, I shot a ton of little kids, teens, adults, and senior citizens.  They all showed their awe towards the new museum, and I captured those expressions with my camera.  Doesn’t this little girl look like she’s full of wonder and intrigue, as she experiences all the excitement the new building has to offer?!?

It really is a cool place to go, whether you’re a child or just a child at heart.  I can’t wait to see some of the future faces and expressions they use in this ad campaign.  I think it really captures what every guest feels as they take their first steps into the world-class attraction!

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science…

Keep an eye out for these fun advertisements!  I recently shot a campaign for The Perot Museum of Nature and Science that features a bunch of different people excited about seeing the new museum.  It was great getting to work with the museum’s real friends and family, no actors or models, just real members.  It can be a challenge to work with people who aren’t normally used to being in front of professional photographers, cameras, and lighting.  However, I think the end result was worth the effort.  These photos and advertisements should be popping up all around Dallas in the coming year, in newspapers and magazines, on billboards, and who knows where else?!?

Dallas Event Photographer…

Yes, it’s true.  Besides shooting rock and roll for a living, I also do my fair share of high end event photo coverage.  There are so many charity balls and fancy galas to photograph here in Dallas, and they can be quite a blast!  Here are some recent tear sheets from fashion monthly FD Luxe…

Picture of Me Taking a Picture…

If you noticed this photo taken by Louis DeLuca that ran in last Sunday’s Dallas Morning News, you’ll see a familiar face… or, back of head in the lower right corner.  Yup, that’s a picture of me taking a picture of the Hoglunds at the new Perot Museum.  I guess the back of my head is famous now?!?

Thank you, Larry Hagman…

I had a very brief interaction with Larry Hagman, back in 2007.  I was shooting an exclusive VIP event for the news, and Larry was one of the speakers.  I was sitting, waiting for the event to start, probably looking a little bored.  Larry walks by, looks at me, then stops and turns toward me.  He raises his hands, like he’s holding a camera, and he proceeds to take an imaginary picture of me.  Then he smiles as big as Texas, and I smiled back and gave him a thumbs up!
He later went on to enchant the crowd with his anecdotes and witty banter.  This isn’t some amazing photo that generations of Larry Hagman fans will cherish, but I still like the emotion I captured as he spoke that night.  I think it’s a classic Hagman grin that showcases his spirit.  Thanks, Larry.  Our brief encounter and interaction was definitely a memorable moment!
And, by the way, I watched so many re-runs of I Dream Of Jeannie that I must’ve worn out the television.  I know most boys watched the show for Barbara Eden’s wardrobe (or lack of one), but I was always drawn to Major Nelson’s charisma and charm!

Radney Foster Times Two…

The Radney Foster concert was pretty great the other night!  Of course, I like that Texas Country type of music, so I might be a bit biased.  Mario’s well-crafted review that ran in today’s issue of The DMN seems to agree with me, so I guess I’m not alone.  Apparently, Mr. Foster is well-loved by many!  And, if you are one of his fans, you got a double dose of my pics in the paper today, with a few more online, here:

Tre Wilcox vs. Popcorn?!?

Another Chefwear catalog came out recently, this time with celebrity chef Tre Wilcox on the cover!  He was a blast to photograph, and it was great that he didn’t mind my suggestion of having popcorn dumped all over his head… he really is a good sport!
